NCR and Rugbee.co are proud to recognize Lauren Kuffel as the October Student Leader of the Month. Kuffel is a Neuroscience major while minoring in Law, Justice, and Social Change at the University of Michigan. Starting at U of M in the fall of 2019, Kuffel knew she wanted to participate in an organized sport after being an athlete through high school. She attended the rec sports expo, found rugby, and never looked back.
Since joining the club, Kuffel became the match secretary and forwards captain. Kuffel became the club president and field captain this fall season. Along with playing for the Wolverines, Kuffel has also played with Legacy Academy 7s, U23 Midwest Thunderbirds 15s, and Chicago Lions 7s.
“Lauren is a senior, our team captain, and club president. She has worked tirelessly in the past four years to build a culture that is inclusive, competitive and fun for all that join the team. She also supports the coaching staff by ensuring we have the field set up and torn down, and she keeps our uniforms looking sharp! Lauren is the first one at practice most days and the last one to leave—always asking if there is anything I need before she departs. Recently Lauren completed L1 Referee certification and plans to keep giving back to the game after she graduates.” Jamie Frech, University of Michigan Rugby Coach.
