A third-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations with a minor in Science Communications, Alexandra’s journey with University of Texas Women’s Rugby began in her freshman year when she was introduced to the sport by a fellow student.
As president of the rugby club, Alexandra has shown exceptional leadership and dedication. Starting as the recruitment chair, she quickly stepped up to enhance the club’s reputation and foster an inclusive environment for new players. Despite lacking prior experience in a vice presidential role, she devoted her summer to learning about rugby and effective club management, enabling her to implement officer training programs and create new positions within the board.
Her proactive approach to recruitment has been particularly effective. By capitalizing on events like the summer Olympics, Alexandra successfully increased team numbers, welcoming enthusiastic newcomers eager to engage in the sport. Her ability to motivate and support both new and returning members has been essential in cultivating a positive team culture.
In addition to her rugby commitments, Alexandra volunteers with Austin Pets Alive! and has contributed freelance articles, including a published piece in the San Antonio Express-News. She also tutors at the on-campus writing center and is pursuing a creative writing certificate.
Of her teammate, Isabella Lau stated, “Even while she has been injured at times and not at her best, she always manages to show up to practice and step up each time no matter what… she never complains or anything even if she has a lot on her plate.”
Alexandra’s resilience, organizational skills, and dedication have significantly revitalized the rugby program, making her a deserving recipient of this award. Her leadership embodies the spirit of teamwork, and has made a tremendous impact on the University of Texas Women’s Rugby team.
