Senior flanker and captain Mylo Skolnick has been named the April Student Leader of the Month after leaving an extraordinary impact on both the rugby program and campus community at Cornell University.
Originally from Singapore, where he played rugby for seven years before coming to the United States, Skolnick is graduating this spring with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations and a Business minor. On the pitch, he earned Liberty All-Conference Starting XV honors and was named Cornell’s MVP in the Round of 8 matchup against the University of Vermont Nationals squad.
But Skolnick’s greatest contributions may have come off the field.
Serving as Recruitment Chair from 2023-2025 and Team Captain during the 2025-26 season, Skolnick built one of the most comprehensive recruiting operations in collegiate club rugby. Teammates estimate he personally helped recruit nearly 80-90% of the current roster, spending countless hours mentoring applicants, reviewing admissions essays, and guiding prospective students through Cornell’s highly competitive application process.
His leadership helped fuel one of the program’s most successful seasons, including an undefeated Liberty Rugby Conference championship campaign during what many expected to be a rebuilding year.
Beyond recruitment, Skolnick became the emotional heartbeat of the team. Whether leading warmups, energizing teammates during matches, or promoting the club across campus through creative outreach efforts, his passion for rugby and commitment to his teammates created a culture built on accountability, connection, and pride.
Described by teammates as “the heart and soul of the club,” Skolnick’s legacy extends far beyond wins and accolades. Through his energy, mentorship, and relentless dedication, he helped strengthen the future of Cornell rugby while embodying the values of leadership, scholarship, and community.
