Zach Herrington, a junior at Slippery Rock University, has distinguished himself through his exceptional leadership, dedication, and achievements both on and off the rugby field.
Zach’s rugby journey began at a young age, introduced to the sport by his father. He played for the Indiana County Warriors in high school, where he quickly rose to a leadership position. As team captain in his senior year, he led the Warriors to victory in the Pennsylvania state championship in 2022. That same year, Zach earned a spot on the Pennsylvania All-State Team.
Currently studying Exercise Science at Slippery Rock, Zach continues to excel in rugby. He has earned Scholastic All-American honors for two consecutive years and was named an All-American in 2023. In addition, he has received All-Conference recognition in the Allegheny Rugby Union for two years, including being named ARU Player of the Year for SRU’s division in one of those seasons. Last semester, Zach played a pivotal role in leading SRU’s 7s team to a National Championship, earning MVP honors and a place on the All-Conference team.
Beyond his on-field achievements, Zach’s leadership is evident in his commitment to developing his teammates. He frequently organizes captain’s practices, mentors rookies, and volunteers for a variety of activities, from recruiting to student government meetings. Zach’s ability to balance personal excellence with fostering team cohesion underscores his natural leadership qualities.
