Sean grew up in Ireland, where he began playing rugby at age 13. His playing career lasted an impressive 35 years, concluding at age 48. During that time, he spent eight years playing in London before emigrating to Boston, where he continued competing for another 11 years before retiring from the game.
Beyond his accomplishments on the field, Sean dedicated many years to rugby leadership and administration. He served as President of the Boston Irish Wolfhounds and President of the USA Rugby Super League. During his tenure with the Wolfhounds, the club captured back-to-back USA National Division One Championships. As President of the Super League, Sean oversaw three championship finals held in San Francisco, Atlanta, and Seattle.
Professionally, Sean spent 28 years in the financial services industry. He worked with Invesco in London, where he managed daily trading activity on the dealing floor, and later with State Street Corporation in Boston. At State Street, he held several leadership positions, including Assistant Vice President of International Corporate Conversions and as a Six Sigma Black Belt, leading initiatives that reduced errors, lowered costs, and improved transaction-processing efficiency.
At age 50, Sean began an entirely new chapter, launching a career as an interior and exterior painter. Even today, he remains actively engaged in the trade, regularly climbing 40-foot ladders as part of his work.
Sean was introduced to National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) through his son, who, as a freshman, competed in both the NCR All-Star Tournament and the NCR National 7s. His lifelong commitment to rugby—as a player, administrator, leader, and supporter—continues to shape his involvement in the sport today.
