About National Collegiate Rugby

National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) serves 16,000 players across 600 men’s and women’s college clubs in the United States. The men’s teams compete in Division I, Division IAA, Division II and Division III (Small College), ranging from full varsity programs to grassroots clubs. With a singular focus on supporting and growing college rugby, NCR operates five national championship events including the Men’s and Women’s XVs, National 7s, and the Men’s and Women’s National All Star tournaments. The following will be considered when reviewing applicants for the Men’s Small College Commissioner position:

  • Availability and attendance at Regional and National Championship events
  • Affiliations with current collegiate rugby programs or organizations

Responsibilities

The Men’s Small College Commissioner shall report directly to the National Collegiate Rugby’s Men’s Director and is responsible for the following services which include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and managing a Competitions Committee with responsibilities including reviewing and providing recommendations regarding competition structures (such as playoff brackets), selection of venues, eligibility, ideas for improved services and more as appropriate.
  • Organizing and managing both a Small College 15s and 7s club national playoff system leading to a National Championship.
  • Working closely with the Membership Services Manager, assist in the pre-tournament registration and eligibility process for participating teams.
  • Supporting the Marketing Department in the preparation of marketing assets for National Championship events and other tangible program offerings.
  • Supporting the High Performance Commissioner in All-Star competitions, All-American selections, Coaching Workshops, etc., as needed.
  • Managing the 15s Club National Rankings, both Weekly and End of Season.
  • Supporting the Marketing Department and selection committees in the promotion of NCR Recognition Programs, such as the Player of the Month, Coach of the Month, etc.
  • Supporting the Growth and Development Director in working with new and emerging rugby clubs by sharing best practices on recruiting, fundraising, and club operations.
  • Supporting the organizational needs of local governing bodies (Conferences and Unions) where appropriate.
  • Being responsible for all areas related to the development, communication and organization of college rugby clubs per NCR goals and mission.
  • Engaging key stakeholders that include college/university officials, union/league members and community members on behalf of NCR and provide insight on policies and programs.

  • Assisting in the development of policies, statements, proposals, reports, etc. that suit the evolving landscape of collegiate rugby and collegiate sports as a whole.
  • Providing assistance and leadership roles in logistical and planning needs related to regional and National Championship events.
  • Managing an annual budget in support of the 15s playoffs and directing payment through NCR Treasurer for all expenses owed by NCR for completed events.
