The North went a perfect 3-0 over the weekend to claim the Rising Stars Championship at Silverbacks Park in Atlanta. Thomas College scrumhalf Conor Tierney was awarded the tournament MVP, slotting seven conversions and two penalties, while also steering the North’s potent attack.

Saturday, the eventual champs beat the South, 13-5, with George Pelter scoring the lone try and Tierney slotting two penalties and a conversion. The North then beat the East, 26-12, in the semifinals, with AIC center Otsile Maphosa scoring two tries. Sunday, the North defeated the West, 43-12, on the back of two tries from Thomas College flanker George Pelter to secure the title.

East wing Nate Ingolls (Kentucky) led the Rising Stars competition with six tries, including four in the 28-25 thriller over the West Saturday. Sunday, the East downed the South, 43-10, to finish 2-1 and in second place.

The South’s 41-24 win over the West Saturday was good enough for third place. North Alabama center Mohale Maolibeli and South Carolina flanker Landen Day scored a pair of tries each in the win. University of Chicago center Caius Michlitsch led the West with four tries on the weekend.
