For the second-straight year, Wheeling and Southern Nazarene will meet in Houston to decide the Women’s Division I national championship.
The Crimson Storm advanced to the final Saturday with a 34-28 defeat of BYU in Bethany, OK, while Wheeling downed Penn State 55-10 in Wheeling, WV to punch the Cardinals’ ticket back to Houston.
Wheeling was paced as always by flyhalf Bella Gullatta, who’s as practiced as any conversion kicker in the country. The All-American also scored a try herself, and center Alli Davis dotted down twice. Cassidy scored Penn State’s lone try, and Herchman added a penalty for the Nittany Lions.
In Oklahoma, the Crimson Storm were led to victory by All-American center Telesi Uhatafe. Saturday’s victory marks SNU’s first over BYU, and it sends the Crimson Storm back to the national title game for the second time in the program’s three years of being.
Wheeling, in just its second year as a program, is 23-0 all-time and searching for a second-straight national title.
